5 Reasons Why I Really Like Summer
Our first week of summer has already passed and boy am I worried it will dissolve itself way to fast. Don’t get me wrong, I love seasons and can’t wait for fall to come… in a few months!
I am thinking about my summer wardrobe and how to get it down to 4 or 5 items (I have so many sketches drawn already), about Popsicle and snorkeling, sewing with ice tea in hand and maybe a few lazy days. Next week I will be publishing a new tutorial on how to refashion a tank top into a summer dress. I finished the dress I made with the bodice pattern I shared the other day and turned a silk dress I’ve made last year into a top. More about that soon.
But first allow me to tell you why I love summer :)
1. It’s the moment for trying daring combinations
Like wearing a polkadot dress with a stripey tshirt, or an xxl tshirt as a dress. It’s summer, so everything goes, especially if you’re going – or pretending to go ;) – to the beach. I like the mix of jersey fabric, lace and leather on this backpack from UrbanOutfitters. The reviews say it’s not so well made, but that’s why we make our own stuff, right?

2. Summer means fruity popsicles
Buy, smell, juice, freeze, eat. It’s not just the taste and the textures that scream of summer, it’s also the colour of popsicles I like: a bold, fresh colour, with a glaze of ice dust. Popsicles from Leif.

3. You get to cut of those jeans you’re not wearing anymore
Summer is for chopping jeans. Choose a pair you’re not wearing anymore and make it this summer’s hit. Cut it, bleach it, dye it in pastels and wear with a refashioned tshirt (here’s a list of tshirt hacking ideas). Image from here.

4. Saturdays are longer days
You wake up and you do things, you relax, you invent, you cook and the day seems to last forever when it’s summer. Photo from Lena Corwin.

5. It’s a good time to learn new things and start projects you always wanted to start
For some people summer is “doing nothing”. For me it’s the time to get started on those projects you were thinking about all winter and spring long. It could be a new blog, a new wardrobe, a house refashion, whatever you think it’s important in your life right now. Image from here.

Do you like summer? Why?

I love that the days are so much longer in summer – I get to do way more stuff! I also love sundresses with sandals, ice cream on a daily basis, water fights and bike riding in the evening :)

How could I forget water fights? I must be getting dangerously old :)

I love cutting my jeans in the summertime. Not only is it a fun, easy, and quick DIY, jean shorts are flattering on almost any body type.

It’s also a good way to make sure those jeans you never wear are not going to be there anymore next fall :)
