Drawing More Garment Sketches
Do you draw your garments before you sew? I do. As you can see in my first Sewing Lesson. But I would like to get better at this.
As I am teaching myself pattern making I am discovering that creating a garment you imagine is not as difficult as it seems. I like working with commercial patterns, but I am growing more interested in following my own ideas and exploring garment design on my own.
I am not a great illustrator and that’s something I would like to get better at also. I am searching for good fashion illustrations sources so if you know anything that might help me learn how to draw better, please do share.
I’ve recently purchased and just received this Fashionary pre-printed notebook and sticky pad, both with full body female figures. While the idea is genius and there so many things people have already done with this, I am curious whether this will be as helpful as I imagine.
These are some examples from the Fashionary blog:

So great that you’re drawing out your designs! Illustrating what I’m going to make helps me work through the construction and pattern making. As I draw the different details, I think, “How and I going to do this or that.” I would never buy Fashionary but I think it would be a great tool. A great way to learn is to copy others :)

Yep, drawing does help one understand better what one is going to sew :)
I am curious, why do you say you’d never buy Fashionary?

Yep, traditional Ikat involves covering parts of the thread with a sealer. However, modern ikat prints might not involve that – I just bought a fabric that mimics Ikat, it’s just printed with an Ikat motif.

I wanted to get this at a point but it was out of stock so I gave up. I think it can be pretty amazing, though… do show what you draw!

Yep, I will (if they’re any good).
The idea is great.
I remember your embroidered illustrations, fantastic stuff. Why did you stop making them?
