Thursday, the First of September

I am starting a new column here on the blog, in which I will post photos, really cool stuff I read and thoughts of the day, every first Thursday of the month. So apart from this post, check back on the next first Thursdays of the month: the 4th of October and the 6th of December.

Autumn was here, and left

Autumn was here for a few days, now we’re back to summer. That’s a good things, as I haven’t even started planning my sewing for the season :)

You can feel it’s a smaller summer though. Days are much shorter and a few yellow leaves start to appear here and there.

I’m reading a sewing book published in 1911

I found a very old book published in 1911 on sewing and dress making and read the first chapter, which describes seams. There are no photos, just a few illustrations and all words. It’s the first time I understood how to make a french seam. I will write more about this book in future posts, but what struck me is how important words are when writing instructions. I use a lot of images in my tutorials as I am not patient enough to read a lot of text when it comes to sewing, but I will try to give more attention to the words I use when I explain a new technique or the construction of a garment.

I’m sketching garments for my fall wardrobe

Which is great. I have a few ideas, which I am trying to organize in sets by look, type or colour and I am really enjoying the process. I’ve added on Pinterest some of the stuff that inspire me this season.

And last but not least…

Here is a sneak peak of the Liberty Refashions post for tomorrow I am chopping a man shirt I traded on Krrb and turning it into a blouse. Full tutorial tomorrow.

So, that’s me. What are you up to this month? Or today?
