We Have 6 Baby Date Palms
A few months ago we took some date seeds and planted them on our terrace. We didn’t think anything would come out of them, but one day we looked at the pot and saw some green little swords coming out. The dates!
Now, after maybe three months, we have 6 baby date palms. They are very green and feathery and stiff. The roots are very tangled and white. They say you shouldn’t touch the roots to much when you move the plant but now the babies are all tangled and it would be impossible to separate them without hurting them.
We now keep it outside, since winter in Barcelona is not that cold, but we don’t water it every day. In the summer we will have to do that and sprinkle water on the leaves as well.
They are growing very slowly, you can barely see the difference form one month to another and it’s supposed to take 6 years for the palm to grow it’s first leaves. Who knows where we’ll be in 6 years or if the date palms will survive…
Oh, it’s so much easier with plants that have a one year life cycle like tomatoes and peppers :)
What about you? Did you ever plant anything yourself?
